A Little Secret

I have known for a long time that to truly lose weight, I need to keep track of what I eat. I also need to eat less and exercise/move more. It’s a simple process but really not at all simple.

Two weeks ago I decided I would try to MyFitnessPal to track my food intake and my exercise output. I also put in that I would like to lose 20 pounds over time but I am re-thinking that part. The reason I am rethinking is that I am always hungry.

At my height and current weight and current activity level, the system at MyFitnessPal says I need to have 1490 calories a day without any exercise. Generally, I run an average of an hour a day but that is going to ramp up as my marathon training starts in a week.

I have been fairly discouraged as I was always hungry. Also, week one ended in my daughter’s bridal shower and I ate too much. The beginning of week two saw me with a two pound gain in weight. This was not the deal I wanted and I was going to dump the whole thing. The time it takes to put items into the system is not a lot but it is more than I wanted to use for that purpose.

Now, that I am more use to how MyFitnessPal works, it is easy to use. I can put my own recipes into the system and it will help me figure out nutritional information. I am liking using it and tracking what I am eating. I am also down 2 pounds from my initial weight. This may work.

As time goes on, I will be updating people on how the ease of use is. Please stay tuned.

Do you track your exercise? What about your food?

  1. I pushed against using myfitnesspal for the longest time but finally caved in and I’m not sure what took me so long. It really is super easy to use and I don’t think I’ve found one item that has not already been scanned into their system.

    1. I didn’t log my eating at the shower. I had no idea about the items, as I had not made them. Other than that, I log. Finding some interesting trends. Will blog more about that later.

  2. I track my exercise on paper in my running notebook, but also on daily mile. I do not track my food, and that is a bad thing. I drink far too much soda, and ice cream isy treat, which I could certainly do without.

    1. I have always tracked my running elsewhere. I have tracked my food before but hated it then. I have to admit I am not too keen on it now but, with a daughter getting married in September, I would like to drop a few pounds prior to the wedding. I am holding off dress shopping just in case. I am not a huge soda drinker – as a matter of fact, was annoyed yesterday that the brewed ice tea was unavailable after I purchased my cup at Sam’s as that meant diet soda. UGH! 🙂
