Summer Races

I thought I had it all figured out. I had to race schedule for July, August, and September that, with my training plan, would put me in  good shape for my mid-October marathon. Unfortunately, my foot was still bothering me.

First, the schedule. July 26th, the TCRC Women’s Distance Festival 5K. My 25 year old daughter was going to run this with me. Then, a 5K in association with Spiedie Fest on August 5th. Two half marathons also in August, the first on the 9th and the second on the 19th. There is also a 5K on the 11th and the 12th if I want to run these.

The last two days, though, running has truly been painful. I am nursing plantar fascistic and thought I was doing better but evidently, I am wrong. I decided today that I am going to take a week off from running. I am taking my youngest to college on Monday. I will bike for workouts the rest of the time. I will attempt to run the August 5th 5K and take it all from there. In the meantime, I am stretching and icing and taking ibuprofen.

I am seriously thinking that I am going to have to put off a fall marathon. I was set to run Amica Marathon on October 14 but do not see this as being a good idea. I took 11 days off in June as I was healing my foot – also graduation and parties got to me. I thought the foot was better.

Do you frequently reevaluate your goals? What happens when you know you cannot make/reach a goal?

  1. I had plans to run 1 race per month during 2012. I ended up with a stress fracture in my left tibia which sidelined me from April 7 until about 2 weeks ago. (The doc actually wanted me on crutches..which I refused, due to work reasons). I did not do too much exercise, biking or otherwise..some P90X here and there..and bike ride every now and then…but I knew I needed my leg to heal so I could run again. My goal now is a 5k in September and then I will see from there. My main goal is to prevent injury: more core work, more stretching, more cross training. I want to run for the rest of my life. That’s my goal.
    So, rest that foot..and get healthy!
