What use to be an annual event in June was moved to May several years ago. The reasoning – today is school budget vote day in New York State. Schools all across NY are going to the polls today in hopes the voters in each district will approve the school board’s operating budget and most likely elect school board members.
With May and June being so busy, the PTA Council in our district decided a few years ago to hold its annual Ice Cream Social on the same night as the budget vote. Great idea since people are coming out anyway! Difficult idea for previous social location as the parking lot of the school was utilized. Compromise!! The Ice Cream Social is tonight from 5 pm to 8 pm. It has moved location to the district high school as opposed to the district middle school since the middle school is a voting location.
So, tonight is full of food and ice cream, art and music. On top of dinner items and ice cream, the district’s two elementary schools and one middle school will host an art show tonight. The high school will host its own art show later. Also, our district’s music programs will showcase the various performance groups with 20 to 30 minute performances. It is a wonderful night! And, today’s/tonight’s weather is great for it!!!
So, if you live in NY, don’t forget to vote! And if you live in the Southern Tier, see you at the M-E High School for ice cream, art and music!
