I have to go into the basement today.  I dislike going there immensely.  It is not that it is scary, although there are some huge spiders.  It is well lit.  I just don’t like going into it.

The basement seems to hold problems for this old house.  When we had a huge flood in this area in June of 2006, the basement went to some water running through it – a common occurrence as I am at the bottom of a hill – to 18 inches of water in a matter of an hour.  When a pipe in my bathroom associated with the tub drain rusted through, the water poured into the basement.  When, just recently, the toilet leaked, again it was the basement that received the leak.

The basement of this old farmhouse is a dirt floor.  At least I do not have to worry about spilling water anywhere.  The basement is made from stones place upon each other.  I am happy that spiders are all I see down there.  I envision, at times, other critters getting in through these stones, even though I know they are below ground level.

I am not anticipating a leak.  I have to change the filter in the water filter system.  I hate doing this not because I am weak, although I do have difficulties reaching it.  I hate doing this because it is in the basement.  Yet, today, I will venture into the basement and make this change.  It has been a month and needs to be done.
