NYS Executive Budget Presentation

Yesterday, Governor David A Paterson presented the Executive Budget for the fiscal year 2010-2011.  New York’s fiscal year runs from April 1 to March 31.  In introducing Paterson, Lieutenant Governor Richard Ravage used the word collegial twice.  This should have been a warning to all – lawmakers and others – listening and watching the presentation… Continue reading NYS Executive Budget Presentation

Move Your Money

I admit to following Arianna Huffington on Twitter.  I started following her after hearing her speak at Ithaca College this past November.  Yet, I somehow missed the kickoff for Move Your Money.  I would hear television plugs for Ms. Huffington coming up on various shows, and saw her tweets about different interviews, but I seemed… Continue reading Move Your Money

The State of New York State

The governor of New York State gave his State of the State address yesterday.  It lasted less than 30 minutes and, in my mind, was short on true details. The address was watched via a WGRZ feed on Pressconnects.com.  At least one person had issues with the feed due to browser compatibility so this method… Continue reading The State of New York State

Yemen … Again

I was not a blogging person when the attack on the USS Cole took place in October 2000, killing 17 American sailors.  I remember vividly, probably due to my overwhelming political and news junkieness – yes, I am also a wordsmith, where I was when I found out about the USS Cole. I was in… Continue reading Yemen … Again

Twenty Years Ago in History

The world is a different place for my children than it was for me growing up. Even though my children are now almost 25, 22, 22, 21, 19 and 15, they do look at a map of Europe and do not know that Germany use to be two countries. They do know this from studying… Continue reading Twenty Years Ago in History

Election 2009 Post View

They say that everything always looks better after the fact.  The Monday morning quarterback scenario is always easier than the actual game.  So, let’s quarterback and look at yesterday’s elections.   Last night, as I was trying desperately to fall asleep, I was listening to various pundits talk about what had happened.  The NY 23rd… Continue reading Election 2009 Post View

November 4, 1979

I was a freshman in college that fateful November.  Though I cannot remember when exactly, I am sure that I had mailed my first absentee ballot home the week prior to this fateful Sunday as election day was November 6th.  I was practicing the democracy that so many take for granted, the very democracy that… Continue reading November 4, 1979

Election Day 2009

Last year every group in the country was geared up to get out the vote.  This year, not so much as the off year election cycle comes to a close with Election Day 2009 – November 3, 2009.   Where I live in upstate NY, there are a handful of interesting items and posts to… Continue reading Election Day 2009

Empty Senate Seats

This has been the year for under-representation in the US Senate.  As you may recall from your American history class, the legislative part of the United States government is made up of two house – the House of Representatives where the representation is dependent on state population and the Senate where representation is two per… Continue reading Empty Senate Seats
