Hopefully, that old adage “In like a lion, out like a lamb” will hold true for March 2018. Right now I can see the fog rolling in as it is raining and is suppose to continue for the day. Better than that, it is going to get cold overnight. As I left daily Mass this morning, I commented I see a snow day in the future of Haywood County schools, or at least a lengthy delay and no buses on icy roads, as it is going to rain and then the temperature drop into the 20s. That is sure to cause freezing.
So March is definitely coming in like a lion.
Let’s go back to that opening paragraph.
Daily Mass
I do not attend mass daily. For a period of time, I would work in my church office on Tuesday afternoons. That would cause me to be finished just in time for that day’s daily mass at 4 pm. Then, work on Tuesdays got a bit complicated for my clients so daily mass wasn’t happening. It is Lent and adding something good for God – like daily mass – would be a good thing but I did not do that.
I went to daily mass today as I had it said in memory of my father. Today would have been his 80th birthday.
No Buses on Icy Roads
The schools here in the mountains of Western North Carolina have this thing. It took me the longest time to understand it. Certain roads in each county are considered icy roads. These are usually higher in elevation. Anyway, a county may have school but say no buses on icy roads. That means those roads designated as icy will not be traveled by buses. Parents need to either drive those children to school all on their own or meet at a designated location for bus pickup. That just cracks me up.
I can remember a big hullabaloo in New York because the sports bus left kids at an elementary school instead of at their driveway or door. I can only imagine what parents would think of no buses on icy roads.
In Like A Lion, Out Like A Lamb
I have seen what March snowstorms do in the Blue Ridge Mountains. My hope is that the in part of March is a week at most. I want the out like a lamb part to leave beautiful flowers and sunny weather for Easter on April 1st.
What is the weather like where you are this first of March? Lion or Lamb?
