Annie and Hank met in college. Unfortunately for Annie, she met Chris first. For years now, she has been blocking out some of the past with Chris and now that he has reappeared in her life, she is must tell Hank all of the truth. Kaira Rouda tells a compelling story about a topic that is in the news on college campuses all too frequently these days – date rape. New York State has gone so far as to make a law, without any penalty under the state penal system, that requires a yes for each step of the “hooking up” process. The penalty is more what the college can do to students than what the penal system can do.

Having read all about Annie and her part in the reality show Laguna Beach, I was intrigued to get more into her character. I happily read this book when usually books that detail violence against women – and that is what rape, whether date rape or not, is – have me putting the book down. With the chapters rotating between present day and ten years before on the campus at UCIrvine, I never felt the need to put this book down. I wanted to know what happened in the end.
