Just my Thoughts

God is Good

As I was running yesterday, words of a friend of mine kept creeping into my mind.  He says that God is letting him back in a little at a time.  I cringe every time I hear this as that is not the God I know, the God I trust.

If we sever our relationship with God, He will take us back, let us back in completely.  We need only ask.  The problem is we have no experience in just asking.  We ask with specifics.  We ask with our plans in mind.  We ask with what we think is best for us.  We need to just say, “Please, God, take me back into your love.”

We spend time in our lives making plans.  I am as guilty of this as the next person.  Unfortunately, these plans are not always to be.  God knows which plans should be for us and not for us.  This is why we may think that we are only getting bits and pieces from Him.

God will give us all we need to be whole.  We have to be open to what God is giving us.

  1. But are you implying that we have to “accept” unemployment or “get use to” not having love in our life or “live with” a correctable physical ailment because we can’t afford heath care? Oppression? Drug addiction? Discrimination?

Is there not some truth to “God helps those who help themselves?

    Just thoughts…

  2. I agree with you. I think we have a hard time grasping how much God really loves us, and how unconditional that love is, because that kind of love is hard for us with our human nature.

  3. Rebecca – You are so right. Humans have a hard time grasping unconditional. It is also hard for us to think we do not have control over what we “want” and “need.”

Steve – No, I am not saying we accept less than what we deserve. I am saying that we do not, regardless of our positions in society, always know what is best for us. We ask God to help our child get into a particular college when, two weeks in, that is not the place for her to be. We don’t trust God as we should and know that He will give us what we need – in his plan, not ours.

  4. This goes back to Steve. I had a SIL who was unhappy in her marriage. She asked me, “Does God expect me to be unhappy in my marriage? Why do I have to be miserable to do the right thing?” My response was, “You don’t. God can change your attitude or the actual situation for you to be happy. My God is a great God who created the earth and he can make you happy in your marriage if you just give it up to Him.”

I don’t think God desires for us to be unhappy. And I don’t think that when bad things happen to us that God is punishing us. Sometimes it’s just the consequence of our disobedience and sometimes it’s part of God’s plan for our lives.

    Jeremiah 29:11

For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.
