Well, another milestone in Susan’s senior year. Her prom was on Friday. I am still recovering.
The high school has a group of parents that form what is called the After Prom Party Committee. We put on an after prom party that is totally alcohol free and is a lot of work. My body is just now catching up with the no sleep at all Friday night. After Prom starts at 12:30. We have prized giveaways every 15 minutes (gift cards to restaurants, free month at local health clubs, gift baskets, dorm room bed boosters, etc.) and then big prize giveaways at the end. You must be present to win and are given 12 tickets to put in the “big” items. “Big” items this year were several different sized TVs, two dorm fridges, a laptop, a portable DVD player, an iPod, cash (over $400 in $50 and $100 increments), and a Ford Ranger.
On top of the giveaways, there were inflatable obstacle courses and gladiator fighting (funny to watch), casino games (cards with previous year’s graduates dealing), a comedian that did an act, a hypnotist (really great to watch), two massage therapists who did chair massages, a picture table (where I worked) with pics of earlier in the night available for free, tons of food, fun games from local church bazaars (a putting green, a duck pond, plinko).
Truthfully, the majority of the work is prior to that night. I didn’t do that work but I always work the party itself so am up til 5:30 or 6 – when it ends and we get some clean-up done.
