This is the last in a series of posts for Momalom.com’s Five for Ten challenge.
I said yes last night. So did the voters in my school district. First, my yes. Then, the voters’ yes.
My school district has a PTA Council which is a PTA that involves representatives from the four buildings – two elementary schools, one middle school and one high school. The PTA Council holds an annual ice cream social each year on the same day as the annual budget vote. There is food, ice cream, art from the various buildings, music from the various performance groups. It is a wonderful event and one that I look forward to annually.
Last night, the president of the Music Boosters was looking for someone to handle tickets for the Music Boosters’ annual Chicken Barbeque which is the first Sunday in June. I said yes. I will take care of the ticket needs. She handed me a folder with what is needed and I will do this.
Then, I went home for a little bit. I went back to the middle school to be there when the budget votes were counted. The voters in my school district said yes overwhelmingly. The voters approved a budget that was hard work to develop. The voters approved the purchase of three new buses. The voters elected Bob Norton with 1,000 votes and me with 995 votes. We were both elected to the Board of Education for three year terms.
When was the last time you said yes? Was it an easy decision? Do you say yes more than you say no?
Way to go! You’ll do a great job.
Congratulations! Here from momalom. Your post shows one person saying “yes” can make a huge difference.
Wow, congrats Nicki! I’m sure this is exciting and challenging at the same time. They’re lucky to have you.
Does any sort of official title come with your office, Nicki? For instance, should we start referring to you as Madame Boardmember?
Congratulations! The residents of your district are lucky you said YES!
WOW – what a cool spin on the YES series. Sometimes, as a mom with two small children, my ideas pertaining to “yes” are small and sheltered and within our home. I forget how important it will be to say “yes” to things of this nature down the road.
Congrats to you and your school district!
Yes yes yes. Way to go, Nicki!
Well done! Exciting times and so great you took the opportunity.
That is fantastic! Best of luck with your newest adventure.
CONGRATULATIONS!! I know you will work hard.
