Day of Jazz – SUNY Oneonta

Last Saturday, I spent the entire day on the campus of SUNY-Oneonta.  I do not live all that close to Oneonta.  It is approximately an 80 mile drive one way.  The child known as Number Five does attend the college, though, and is in several performance groups.  Last year’s Day of Jazz was held in the Black Box theatre on campus but this year’s was set for the Hunt Union Ballroom.

This year’s schedule included a few high school jazz bands and several community college and other college jazz bands.  SUNY-Oneonta’s New Orleans style jazz band played outside Hunt Union as the cookout was happening.  The other college band members and the high school band members could grab their horns and play along with their directors and guest artist Ray Vega.

Most of the photos in this slideshow are outside shots.  Saturday, April 9th, happened to be a gorgeous day so I wanted to be outside as much as I could.

Hockey

For those of you who do not know, I love hockey.  I have managed, along with going to a college that has two ice rinks and only approximately 2,500 students, to pass this love onto my oldest daughter.  Last night, as I stood to clap for the home team as they made the playoffs for the first time in six seasons, I was with  my daughter and, in my thoughts, with my father who held season tickets to the Binghamton Senators for years.  He would have been so happy the Senators made the playoffs.

And in the bottom row of people in this photo, posted by a former colleague of my father’s and a current friend of mine, are my daughter and myself.

Ch-ch-ch-changes

I have to say that I have been indulging in writing a lot lately but not on my blog.  I also have to say that somehow that disappoints me. I have worked hard to get my blog readership and then I ignored you all.  To that end, I have some changes in mind.  So here is the laundry list.

  1. I am going, in the next week or two, do a full overhaul of the blog.  I have had this look for a while and, while I like it, there is so much more that it could be.  I can also learn different things by making these changes.
  2. I am going to set up a Facebook page for the blog.
  3. I am going to look at other ways to publicize my blog, such as a LinkedIn page.
  4. I am going to set up a schedule for blog posts.  This way on Mondays I will also be writing about a certain area of my life.  Race recaps will always be on the same day of the week.  Having such a schedule will allow my readers to skip visiting if a particular day is not information they want or need.  This will also allow me to track which topics I love to write about are of most interest to you.

No, just to be sure, this is not an April Fool’s joke.  Neither is the weather here in upstate NY.  This is my promise to you my readers, my blog and to myself.
