What do you do when a friend is hurting
But won’t let you console her?
What do you do when a friend is down
But won’t let you help him smile?
What do you do when a friend is hungry
But won’t let you feed him?
What do you do when a friend is thirsty
But won’t let you give her a drink of water?
What do you do when a friend is crying
But won’t let you wipe away the tears?
What do you do when a friend needs a hug
But won’t let you hold him close?
What do you do?

Thanks, Shawna. To be totally truthful, I don’t know what you do. This came to me this morning – more or less in this form but you know how age and memory work – while I was running.

Pride. I have trouble dealing with it but what do you do when you can’t complete the circle of trust? Nice poem.

Sad but true, Belinda. Nothing one person can do when the other person won’t let the first.

You do as much as you can and let them know you are there no matter what. I think? Hard one…

I like a poem that raises more questions than it answers, Nicki. And what’s the answer to me? Sometimes a person has to weave their own way out of a problem. More than sympathy and tissues, sometimes you just need to find your own way.
