The Winter Sports Season Dinner Time

One of the main reasons I like working from home is that I can make our evening meal for whatever time is necessary.  I like us all to eat together.  This means sitting down to dinner together as the boys don’t both eat breakfast at home.  Teenagers prefer sleep over food at some times of the day so at least one of the boys would take an extra 15 minutes of shut eye to breakfast at home.  He has an early study hall – second period – so eats breakfast at school.

So, the winter sports season starts the first full week in November and basically goes until the first weekend in March.  My oldest son at home is a diver.  This would not be a big deal except that our high school does not have a diving board.  The ceiling in the pool area – which was an after-thought in the building – is too low for even a one meter board.  Consequently, he goes to diving practice at a neighboring school.  The swim teams practice first – right after school until approximately 6:30 pm.

Diving starts at 6:30 and runs two hours.  This means that we eat dinner about 4:15 pm.  No one else seems to think this is normal but, during winter sports season, it is for us.
